Collage Quilting, A New Adventure

One of the blessings or curses of being an artist is that the newest idea or technique is the most fun. I recently discovered a technique called fused collage quilting. There’s no sewing involved until you get ready to quilt it . You iron a double sided fusible material on the back of your fabric and then cut small pieces and apply them to a backing material. Once the piece is finished then it could be quilted on a machine or by hand,. I am making a 24 x 24 wall hanging.

Step 1 – Pattern

There are lots of simple patterns available for those who are beginners. However, I never seem to start with simple. Since I wanted to use the photo above to make this project, I needed to make my own pattern. To see how it would look as a quilt, I used an app, traced it and added solid colors.


Step 2 – Outline

I needed an outline to trace onto my quilt backing. I made this a little too detailed. I really just needed the bird and the babies along with a simple outline of the nest and background. However, I made it work
